Oregon Childcare Training Requirements


All Care Courses are accepted by the Oregon Office of Child Care towards training requirements for those who work in certified child care centers, certified family child care homes and registered family child care homes. This includes clock hours for directors, head teachers, teachers, teacher aides, operators, owners, site directors, site coordinators, providers, caregivers, substitute providers, assistants, volunteers and registered family child care providers.

The Oregon Department of Education requires that all child care providers complete 8 out of their 15 annual clock hours of training in any of the following core knowledge categories:

  • Diversity
  • Family and Community Systems
  • Health Safety and Nutrition
  • Human Growth and Development
  • Learning Environments and Curriculum
  • Observation and Assessment
  • Special Needs
  • Understanding and Guiding Behavior

Abuse and Neglect: A Caregiver's Guide to Child Abuse may not be used for the first year abuse and neglect requirement.
